I wanted to write this cookbook because it is important to understand what Fair Trade is about and how one can live a “Fair Trade Life”. As a past member of the Fairtrade Canada board, I have met many producers, farmers, business people and know that fair trade certification contributes to sustainability and ethical decisions.
What is Fair Trade?
Fair Trade is a general term describing trading relationships based on fairness, transparency, and respect. It is a different way of doing business aiming to ensure that farmers and workers get a fair deal. Consumers are being bombarded with many ethical business claims. It is my belief that Fairtrade and Fair For Life are the 2 best certifiers when it comes to environmental concerns, ethical business practices, workplace standards, and supply chain management. They offer the most transparent, sustainable business models.
The Fair Trade vibe ensures an ethical background, a sense that the ingredient is being grown to not only provide a living wage but that the very soil is also being replenished.
